Absolute value -
Always a positive number that refers to the distance of a number from
0. The symbol to show the absolute value is two vertical lines
around the number, as: | - 3 | = 3
|
Acute angle -
The measure of an angle between 0 and 90 degrees; or with less than 90
degree radians. Also a positive angle that measures less than 90
degrees.
|
Addend -
A number involved in addition. If two numbers are added, both numbers are addends.
|
Algebra -
A branch of mathematics that substitutes
letters for numbers. An algebraic equation represents a scale,
what is done on one side of the scale with a number is also done to the
other side of the scale. The numbers are constants.
|
Algorithm -
A step-by-step problem-solving procedure for computational mathematical problems.
|
Angle -
A number involved in addition. If two numbers are added, both numbers are addends.
|
Arc -
A section or portion of the circumference of the circle.
|
Area -
The space measured in square units that any 2 dimensional shape or polygon occupies.
|
Arithmetic -
A branch of mathematics usually concerned with
the four operations (adding, subtracting, multiplication and division)
of positive numbers.
|
Array -
A set of numbers that will follow a specific pattern. An orderly arrangement often in rows, columns or a matrix.
|
Attribute -
A characteristic to describe an object usually within a pattern. The attribute usually refers to the shape, size, or color.
|
Average -
The middle or most common in a set of data. There are three types of average in mathematics - the mean, the median and the mode.
